Welcome to the
PICTURE GALLERY OF NIAGARA FALLS MUSEUM

The Niagara Falls Museum closed its doors permanently in 1999.
This website is not affiliated with the museum and was designed as a memorial to its
existence as an institution of learning and study. I frequented the museum often and was
sad to hear of its closure. As a child, its extensive and varied exhibits opened my mind
to the beauty of nature in all its forms. Natural History has become a large part of my
life because of the museum, and so over the years I have a collected found artifacts
which I keep in a " museum " in my home.

The museums halls and displays may seem cluttered and time worn, but considering
there were 700,000 items in their catalog and the passage of 160 years, I think the artifacts
are still a wonderful representation of our world and our curiosity of nature's diversity
and power. Most of the items were procured during the Gilded Age of the Victorian Era. The Victorian's
quest to learn about the world around them lead to many such museums around the world.

The Niagara Falls Museum was the first in North America.

The museum's collections also contained archeological and antropological artifacts assembled
by the fore most experts in thier fields - geologist Louis Agassiz for example.
As well, their Egyptian Collection is still world famous and the subject of contempary
documentaries. National Geographic's Explorer for example.
